Two Ramblers on a Spring Afternoon

“Without habit, the beauty of the world would overwhelm us. We’d pass out every time we saw— actually saw— a flower. Imagine if we only got to see a cumulonimbus cloud or Cassiopeia or a snowfall once a century: there’d be pandemonium in the streets. People would lie by the thousands in the fields on their backs.”
Anthony Doerr

*Congratulations to Mr. Doerr being awarded the Pulitizer Prize this week
for his wonderful novel, All The Light We Cannot See.

  4. Hello Pamela,
What a sobering thought. I am already looking forward to my walk tomorrow morning.
I love the picture of you and Edward heading out along this beautiful path

  5. What a lovely photo and such a good thought to remember, and one I was reminded of when walking down the lane with my wee two year old granddaughter as she stopped to inspect every new thing, a daisy, a snail, the cows in the field, with such concentration and joy.

  7. Sounds a good recommendation.
For the definitive view on habit I always turn to Proust.

  9. Loved that line Pamela. I also loved that book and didn't know about the award. Did you know Novelle Vage has a song called Pamela? It is about pages of her diary. You should listen to it.

    1. I meant Nouvelle Vague and I think the song is Oh Pamela. Have it on my iPhone.
