The Nearly Forgotten Pleasures of Driving Alone

By myself, coming home from an out of state visit to a dear friend. Four hour sunset drive. Moonroof open wide. Technicolor sunset on view. Cool drink by my side. Ipod happily shuffling. Vivaldi and Petula Clark. Nat, Ella and and Bach. Cell phone volume down, music volume up. Way up. Feeling removed from responsibility, unreachable, free.

Arriving home to three smiling furry faces? Priceless.

  1. How handsome is Edward! I am sure that he and Gus would get along, Gus calls several large dogs friend... of course if they drink from his bowl .. he's likely not to invite them back ...

Nice to meet you, thanks for stopping by!

  5. I am totally captivated by your blog! (Thanks to Willow for recommending you!) I am eagerly anticipating reading all your postings at my leisure. Too bad I'm too nervous to take my laptop into the tub - it would be a perfect thing to read while luxuriating in the bubbly!

  6. Fantastic picture. I love this style of design. Very clean lines.

I got the chance to go driving alone for almost 5 hours on my way up to the mountains the other day, as I was following this SUV. It was such a fun time! :)

  8. "...get your kicks, on Route 66!"

Road trips can really be fun, if you can get into your zen. Sounds like you did - I am inspired. Why not?

A graceful post, including pic, as usual. A nice way for me to start the day. Thanks, Pamela.

  9. I've always enjoyed driving alone on long distance journeys and I love the illustration for this post - if only cars were still as elegant as the ones of the late 20s and 30s.

  10. A lovely post reminding me of not so long ago. I had quite a long drive to work each morning to downtown Tampa, Florida...the drive was congested at times, but part of the drive was by causeway, over the bay. Mornings of gorgeous sunrise and evenings coming home of beautiful sunsets out over the water...I know the feeling you described...
