Explore. Dream. Discover.
In the upcoming days the curtains I pull back at dawn will reveal unfamiliar landscapes.
A tall tower standing in the middle of an ivory garden.
A tall tower standing in the middle of an ivory garden.
A simple bedroom where the sheets are “stretched tight and the bed is narrow”
and the lyrical language of its revered inhabitant
still dips and swirls in the springtime light.
I shall wander through family house in the country
in which an entire movement of art was born and nurtured.
I shall spend an evening with Peter and Alice, released now as they are from the pages of childhood. I shall have breakfast with a Provencal princess, one who generously shares the essence of her French life with beauty and wit. I shall wander London bookshops with a novice novelist.
And I just might be offered a magic wand.
This of course, I shall have to decline, for I already have one of my own.
I am off to pick up the stones on a new road,
releasing new stories and hearing new songs.
I shall return soon.
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor .Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
Mark Twain
Oh, Pamela, how I envy you! Have a wonderful trip. I'll be waiting to hear your stories.

I so agree with you Pamela. We always have an adventure to look forward to, whether a trip through the Australian countryside or a soutee overseas. Having completed a trip to New Zealand in January and soon a trip to Israel, away in the caravan on selected weekends, and planning a trip to Ireland next year. Alwys something on the plan and we both still work fulltime in our professions and enjoy our cottage and garden by the sea. As my mother used to say "Rosalie enjoy life, you are a long time dead".
ReplyDeleteEnjoy it, Pamela!!!

ReplyDeleteThanks for posting the Mark Twain quote .... it's a very inspirational quote for my daughter, a late bloomer at 36, who today is graduating to a career as a surgical technologist ... very smart young woman who is now on to bigger and better things in her life.
Do try to pop in to the Persephone Bookshop. I'm not sure if you have been there dozens of times before -but it is so quintessentially English. I could buy all of there books at once.
ReplyDeleteBuster sends greetings to Edward and Apple.
Pamela,
ReplyDeleteLucky you! I love England...do bring back some stories for your readers so that we can imagine the excitement from our homes.

Wishing you a most magical time!
ReplyDeleteSafe journey.
ReplyDeleteFeeling a little depleted this mid-afternoon, I snuck upstairs, read a little Harry Potter (what fun) and fell sound asleep before I got to the end of the chapter. In my dream I was walking along a beautiful leafy lane with Merlin. I was on an adventure. I looked down and spied a beautiful polished stone and picked it up (can't resist an interesting stone) and as I continued to look I kept spying ever more beautiful stones along the pathway. A lady leaning against a tree laughed a tinkly laugh and said to me 'this adventuring suits you, you should do more of it'. That's all. That lady was you Pamela. I don't know why I'm sharing, but it was a lovely dream! Have a great time. x
ReplyDeletePS: The dream was also long before I visited your blog!
ReplyDeleteHi Pamela, have a nice time and yes please keep up such good work. xo

You to the UK; I to the desert southwest soon. Not quite as exotic, but at least I'm going SOMEWHERE!! And remember: there's no place like home! It looks even better after you've been away! Another reason to take a trip...
