A Lovely Dream
There are nights when my dreams become crowded. A fairly extravagant dreamer in quiet times, when I am under too much stress, or a bit overworked, my dreams can resemble a painting by Breugel, one in which all his tiny characters not only have dramatic back stories but a multitude of voices with which to share them. Clamouring to be heard, they chatter away in a myriad of accents, each story as imperative as the next, a rowdy, chaotic cacophony. They scurry and scatter, up trees and down avenues, working, cleaning, cooking, running, walking - never sleeping.
I wake up exhausted.
On the other hand, when my days are placid and my mind is calm, my dreams are a serene reflection. They are airier, breezier, more like a Monet. I lazily float on a glassy pond with my fingers brushing past water lilies. I drift like a rose petal along a sweetly scented garden pathway. I wander Westminster in a soft London rain.
I wake up refreshed.
I used to have a recurring dream. It was during a period of time when I was extremely busy, working with several clients at once, all in addition to a variety of other extracurricular activities, time-eaters all. In this dream I was dozing in a bower bed draped with white flowers. Warm zephyrs gently blew the curtains and sounds of the sea could be heard through the open windows. In another part of the house I heard a knock on the door. The door was then answered by director, Steven Spielberg. Outside there was a line of people stretching down the drive and off into the distance; clients, friends, family, neighbors....as far as the eye could see, all wishing to speak with me. Mr. Spielberg (who for some reason was wearing a heather grey fisherman’s sweater) simply said to them all, “I am very sorry, but Mrs. Terry is seeing no one at present.”. Then he closed the door.
Ah, now that was a lovely dream.

In a fisherman sweater, ha ha!
ReplyDeleteNow that's a sweet dream.
It is good to read of someone else who dreams all the time - I have the most vivid dreams - sometimes they are so real that it takes me almost all day to shake them off and return to reality. Interesting post as usual Pamela. I suppose Edward has lovely dreams involving rabbits and juicy bones!
ReplyDeleteI remember my dreams every day of my life....and these past few nights, I've had really good dreams that make me feel happy when I awake! Not exactly like yours though! heehee! Love that dream!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing where our dreams can take us? That one was obviously telling you to slow down a little, Pamela.
ReplyDeleteWonderful illustration!
Your dreams, even the frantic ones, have so much creativity! PLEASE tell me the name of the painter and painting? How wonderfully it illustrates this post.
ReplyDeleteI love to dream and I do day dream, my mind wonders far too much!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful post with a painting to match.x
I wish I could remember my dreams. So often I cannot. Wonderfully worded as usual. Smiles, LC
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling sleepy reading your beautiful descriptions of your dreams. Leigh
ReplyDeleteexcellent! who better to run interference! the magic man!
ReplyDeleteHi there and thanks for commenting and following me. I know that everyone says this but Edward is oh so gorgeous....I just love seeing his picture on my followers.
ReplyDeleteAnyway...dreams. I just love dreams...the nice ones, obviously. They can be so 'off the wall' sometimes, can't they and why is it that you remember them sometimes and not others ? XXXX
Ah- now the time-eaters- those are the ones that nibble-gnaw away at our dreams-creating the chaotic images. I could not agree more and I love the illustration as well. GT
ReplyDeleteYou have a famous protector!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderfully you describe your dreams. When I was young I had vivid memorable dreams that stayed with me for days - I can still remember parts of them even now, but over the last few years I find I dream less and can't always remember them although I know I have been dreaming:)
ReplyDeleteLovely dream! I have always remembered my dreams, some are very vivid and strange! Suzie. x
ReplyDeleteThanks for bringing me into your dreamland-My BFF always shares her dreams with me, and I must say, my dreams are boring in comparison to yours and hers! :)
ReplyDeleteI always feel as though I am walking into a warm, cozy room with a fire when I read your posts Pamela. My dreams are scattered~ almost always they are pleasing. And I do remember them.
ReplyDeleteYou are so amazing. Even while you sleep. Dreams are very revealing about an individual, I am so happy you shared yours.
ReplyDeleteIn my dreams I am usually flying, trying to get everyone's attention below me. No one sees me. And then there is always a lesson to be learned about what is going on below. I am the observer in dreamland as I am in life.
Wonderful post, and wonderful you.
I love how vivid this dream is. I've had terrible dreams for the past few nights, so it's nice to read about a good one! xoxo
ReplyDeleteThat was very nice of Mr Spielberg, a guardian angel of dreaming, we could all do with one of those.
ReplyDeleteSteven belongs more in a nightmare dream with ghosts and goblins and scary dead pets! Pamela, only you could put him in a beautiful dream!
ReplyDelete* MUWAH *
I sympathise with dream-induced exhaustion! Recently I am having night-time visions of a gentle armageddon-type movie! Usually I dream of going back to college only to forget/miss/ignore my exams and fail again...
ReplyDeleteLove you post ...yes a lovely dream I need a Mr. Spelberg. I love the images you select too.
ReplyDeleteHaHa! You need to get out your dream dictionary! This one has SO many elements. :)
ReplyDeleteI dream about houses and house tours and architecture. I don't have a clue what it means.
ReplyDeleteLove your dream.
When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are, when you wish upon a star, your dreams, come true...la da la de la de dah....here comes the fisherman over sea and over gale...I can see him now protecting his lady. Perhaps a night in shining armour just waiting in the boat for you. Turn back time to the 1800's and we can go there, in our dreams.
ReplyDeleteYou did make me smile....xv
ReplyDeleteVivid and active, wow you do have fabulous dreams. The Spielberg is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteMy stress dream is still related to waiting tables. I have an entire restaurant to serve alone.
Oh My God that is so funny and so serene. I would love a dream of scents and sounds as yours.
ReplyDeleteMine are normally remembered fragments, deeply felt, emotionally tugging.
I used to interpret dreams for friends a while back then stopped. I admire the lofty Spielberg one though, how strange, he was in one of my dreams years ago! I've just realised something, he does resemble your hubby's picture, just a bit. Peace, love, x.
swapping details are posted today my friend. xo to Edward & Apple from Miis W Dixon
ReplyDeleteblessings and may you always have sweet dreams Angel
ReplyDeleteLove Jeanne
That is the best dream! I would very much like for Steven Spielberg to be my gatekeeper.
ReplyDeletei love dreams like that, when there's an expected person there and you see them so clearly...heather green sweater and all.
ReplyDeletei had a vivid dream the other night about a place i was going to visit the next day. when i got there, i expected it to be exactly as it was in the dream (which it wasn't), but the dream had been so real, i felt my visit had already happened.
Ahhh, I see you are another dreamer like me! I'm so excited to be the girl (nearly in the Scottish Highlands) who will be sending you 15 things ... I will think long and hard and try to make them as dreamy as possible ;-)
ReplyDeleteHi Pamela,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you like your bracelet.
Thanks for letting me know it arrived safely.;)
I enjoyed reading your dreams. I think if you dream a lot it is a sign of a very creative mind working overtime!:)
I like weird and wonderful dreams, as they can sometimes be very inspiring.
Beautiful painting you have posted as well!
Hello P&E,
ReplyDeleteNo-one would mess with Mr Spielberg, so good to have him on your side! I find dreams rather illusory; I have them but rarely can remember.
how funny! the line of people sounds like the nannys who get blown away in Mary Poppins.
ReplyDeleteI don't usually remember my dreams but sometimes I wake up and I don't feel refreshed and I know I've had stressful dreams but don't know what they were!
Lovely dream indeed. A house is meant to symbolise the psyche I think I read somewhere.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. Steven Spielberg directing your life. Turning away all the busy-ness so that you could continue to sleep peacefully. That was very nice of him.
ReplyDeleteSurprised that this painting from Breugel is so fairy-tale like! When you dream a lot, I hope you have read my posts on dream language, a while ago?
ReplyDelete:D
ReplyDeleteI wonder what strange things we might do in other people's dreams!
Oh this dream is ever so much more pleasant than any of mine...I love the Stephen Speilburg in a fisherman sweater detail:)
ReplyDeleteMy latest dream was of a backhoe knocking down my house and chasing me!
