SEA JOY
When I go down by the sandy shore
I can think of nothing I want more
Than to live by the booming sea
As the seagulls flutter round about me
I can run about--when the tide is out
With the wind and the sand and the sea all about
And the seagulls are swirling and diving for fish
Oh-to live by the sea is my only wish.
This little poem was written by Jacqueline Bouvier when she was ten years old.
I know just how she felt.
I leave for the seaside at daybreak.
Be back soon!

Wow! I have something in common with her then, as when I was 13, I wrote a poem called, "How Would It Be, To Live In The Sea?

Ah...Have a blissful journey and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you get that storm. Not a hurricane, mind you....:-)...
ReplyDeleteHave a fantastic time at the seashore! (Living in land-locked Alberta, I'm terribly jealous).
ReplyDeleteMay you enjoy every crashing wave, salt spray on your face, dancing through tidal pools and the memories of childhood.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Edward will!

Enjoy your trip! I know you will come home inspired!
ReplyDeleteI was at the lake, but it isn't the same as the sea. I would love the smell of salt. But I did love being at the lake too.
ReplyDeleteCome back refreshed.

I consider myself very lucky to be living 10 year old Jacqueline's dream. I can see the sea from my house, it's just a few minutes walk away and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
ReplyDeleteHave a great holiday!
Charming and so touching in retrospect.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what you come back with, hope all was lovely and brouillard, just right for writing... xxx.

ReplyDeleteIt captures the seaside perfectly and it is very well written for a ten year old.
I miss the sea. I would love to live near the coast again!
It can make you feel so alive and refreshed.
Best wishes.

I'm reading backwards, as I so often do. I hope you've had a good time! lol. A sweet little poem. I concur.
ReplyDeleteThis is included in the Favorite Poems of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis. She was very underrated as a poet herself. Thanks for sharing again.
ReplyDeletePoetry came late to me, but this volume and this poem spoke to me as a lover of the sea.
